Storage after reconstitution
How long a reconstituted peptide solution stays within specification, and why the answer is shorter than the dry vial's.

Overview
Once a lyophilized vial is reconstituted, the material is no longer dry and the stability picture changes. Most peptides in solution are less stable than the same peptide in a lyophilized cake, and the in-use window is correspondingly shorter — days to weeks rather than months to years.
The standard in-use storage for a reconstituted peptide solution is refrigerated (2–8°C), protected from light and freeze–thaw cycles.
Why it matters
The compound page's post-reconstitution storage window sits on top of any manufacturer in-use limit for the diluent itself. Treating either as the sole constraint underestimates the total in-use exposure.
Key concepts
In-use window is an upper bound
The documented in-use window is the maximum time under ideal conditions. Real handling includes stopper punctures, brief temperature excursions during draws, and mechanical stress; all shorten the effective window.
Freezer storage is rarely correct
Reconstituted peptide solutions generally do not tolerate freezing well. Freeze–thaw cycles can precipitate the peptide, denature it, or otherwise change potency without visible signs.
Discard beats trying to salvage
If a solution has been stored outside its window or has visible turbidity/particulate, discarding is cheaper than the consequences of using it.
Common misconceptions
- "If it still looks clear, it's still good." Visual clarity is not evidence of intact potency.
- "Freezing extends the in-use window indefinitely." No; most reconstituted peptide solutions degrade under freeze–thaw, not the reverse.
- "The bacteriostatic-water limit is the whole story." The bacteriostatic water has an in-use limit; the reconstituted peptide has its own; both apply.
Practical interpretation
Follow the compound page's post-reconstitution storage window as an upper bound. Discard early if handling has been suboptimal.
Limitations
Reconstituted-solution stability data are less complete than dry-vial stability data. The stated window is a conservative summary of what is known, not a guarantee.
