The Selank + Semax blend combines two Russian-developed neuropeptides that were designed for related but distinct central-nervous-system targets. Selank is a synthetic tuftsin analogue characterised for anxiolytic activity through modulation of GABAergic signalling and serotonergic tone. Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide fragment of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), designed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow, with neuroprotective and BDNF-inducing activity that has been characterised in rat behavioural models.

Both compounds are typically administered intranasally, which bypasses the gastrointestinal tract and allows small peptides to absorb through the nasal mucosa. Intranasal delivery may also give some direct nose-to-brain access via the olfactory pathway, though the pharmacokinetic details of that route are less well-characterised than the systemic-absorption pathway.

The blend appears in the peptide-therapy space for anxiety/mood contexts where the pharmacological logic is that Selank addresses acute anxiolytic activity and Semax addresses longer-term neuroprotection and BDNF signalling. Both peptides have Russian-language clinical literature that is difficult to fully evaluate outside that language and its specific regulatory context. English-language phase-3 controlled clinical trial evidence for either compound individually is thin, and for the combination is essentially absent. The pharmacological rationale is coherent based on component mechanisms, but the human evidence tier for the specific blend is limited.
